How To Get A Date
by Eric Lercara
You are probably here because you want better results with online dating. Maybe you joined a singles dating site or two and haven’t had results. You’re not alone. Most guys who join dating sites end up writing profiles that fail to attract women.
That is because they don’t know HOW to write a good profile.
My name is Eric Lercara, and I'm a freelance writer in Washington DC. I'm also an online dating coach and avid online dater. For five years – minus a year-long stint when I was in a relationship – I've navigated the online dating scene. In that time I've read tons of articles, gained tons of real experience, and talked with many women about relationships and online dating. In that time period, I developed an ability to write a personal ad that generates ENORMOUS attraction from women. Just since February 2010, I've had 32 contacts from girls, and that is on just one of the sites that I'm on. My personal ad does most of the work for me. As you can imagine, it's hard to keep up! In early 2010, one of my single friends came to me for online dating advice. My friend, who is by most accounts better looking than me, couldn’t get responses from women. Worse, he was sending out a dozen messages a day, and I wasn’t sending messages out at all. Literally, within five seconds of looking at his online profile, I knew what he doing wrong. It was the same thing most guys do wrong, and I'll tell you what that is. Soon another buddy asked me for dating advice, and wanted me to write his profile for him. Being a good buddy, I obliged. Within days, he was getting the same results as me! Good thing we’re on different dating sites, or there wouldn’t be any women left for anyone else!
Most guys write the same online profiles, thinking it will get results. Here is an example of what the average guy writes (check it out yourself. Do a search of 20 guys’ profiles – you will see what I mean):
According to my friends, I am a fun, understanding, laid-back guy who is always down for a good time. I like to lay on the sarcasm and it really doesn't take much to make me smile – a Judd Apatow movie and good company are more than enough to do the trick. But if you really want to get me pumped on another level, you should challenge me to an 80's rock ballad sing-a-thon.
Women literally sift through hundreds of dating profiles just like this every week. Notice that this person uses the same phrases most guys do: “according to my friends.” “I am fun.” “laid-back.” These phrases don't peak a woman’s curiosity. Within five seconds, a woman will know whether or not you are interesting enough to date. And if you aren't, she will pass over you in a heartbeat, never to look again.
There is a way to make yourself appear more attractive to women.
It can be done in several ways:
Your ad can be a PASSIONATE profile, where you come across as a fascinating, passionate man.
Or it can be an ILLUSTRATIVE profile, where you tell a story that appeals to a woman’s imagination.
Finally, it can be a HILARIOUS personal ad that gets the woman laughing and wanting to know more about you.
Women all want a guy who is interesting. Unfortunately, many otherwise interesting guys have a hard time conveying that they are interesting through their online profiles. And the result is failure to meet women. In addition to the three ways of writing profiles I mentioned above, there is a mode of communication that must be utilized in every profile. This is a mode of communication that conveys strength and confidence. Reread the profile above. Notice how it has a wishy washy feel to it. It is written in a way that shows the writer is trying to prove himself to the girl. A good profile, however, is written with a certain attitude. In combination with one of the three types of profiles mentioned above, it also expresses masculine assertiveness, internal validation, and confidence – three traits that drive women wild. This is the same formula I used to write my profile, which got me 32 unsolicited contacts in a 3-month period. Here is a screenshot of a one-week period in March 2010:
