Is She Laughing At You?

Online dating is a lot like meeting women in bars, only without all the obstacles. The ‘rules’ of flirtation work the same.

Let me tell you a quick story. Last week, my friend approached a girl in the bar. He went up to her and said, “Hi, I’m Mike. I like to have fun, laugh, and have a good time. I’m adventurous, laid-back, and fun to be around. Your mom would love me!”

How do you think that interaction went? Yep. You guessed it.

Mike got shut down.

I actually made that story up, but it illustrates an important principle. That principle is: if it would get you shut down in a bar, it will get you shut down in an online profile.

The problem with Mike’s ‘personal ad’ is that he does what every other guy does. He tries to get the girl to like him by saying what he hopes she wants to hear.

She knows what he’s doing. She’s seen it thousands of times. The only difference online is that she won’t be laughing at your face… she might only be laughing at a picture of your face.

To prevent that from happening, you need to write a profile that conveys your strong qualities in way that is attractive to women. But you can’t do what Mike did. You have to get creative.
